Error :”Please edit your shell’s DISPLAY environment variable…” launching Domino local server setup on Unix or Linux

You have installed Domino on Linux and the following message appears while you attempt to start it.

Xlib: connection to “:0.0” refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
Please edit your shell’s DISPLAY environment variable to reflect an unlocked terminal that you would like to launch the Domino Setup Program on.

Solving this error, use the following :

  • – open a terminal session
  • – log as root (su -)
  • – Add the domin’s account within the X server ACL using this syntax:

# xhost +local:username

Example while my Domino account’s user is notes
xhost +local:notes
The following message appears:

non-network local connections being added to access control list

– Restart your domino server with the note’s account user;

/local/notesdata1/ /opt/ibm/lotus/bin/server
